A website you can update yourself, built by people you can phone

Too often, web developers will talk you in circles and charge accordingly. You end up with a site only they can change, on a monthly fee, and a nagging sense that you have rented your own shopfront.

For a local specialty retailer that is a  problem. Your website needs to reflect you and what is genuinely in your store. It needs to say what is different about your business compared with everyone else selling the same products. And if your website and your point of sale do not talk to each other, you are running two businesses instead of one.

Your website needs to be able to be updated by you, without additional developer costs.

What we build

Tower Systems builds Shopify websites that connect directly to our point of sale software. We work with independent specialty retailers like bookshops, fishing bait and tackle businesses, garden centres, produce businesses, firearms dealers, newsagencies, jewellers, bike shops, toy stores and others. Not franchises. Not corporate groups.

All development happens in Melbourne. Nothing goes offshore. That costs more than hiring a developer in another country, and we will say so upfront. The tradeoff is that you are dealing with people who understand Australian retail and who answer the phone.

Fixed price, set at break-even

Our pricing is fixed and set at break-even. The point is to get our point of sale customers trading online, not to make margin on the build. The service covers a proper consultation, a clear brief on what you need to supply, a Shopify theme, full point of sale integration, a two-hour handover session, and three months of phone support after go-live.

Five things worth deciding before you build

  • Know who the site is for. New customers or existing ones? That single answer shapes every other choice.
  • Start with flat-rate shipping. Add complexity once you can see how people actually buy from you.
  • Write your own product descriptions. Copied supplier text gets penalised by search engines.
  • Do not list your whole range on day one. A curated set of best sellers is easier to manage and easier to shop.
  • Have a traffic plan. Social, email, something. A site with no visitors does not sell.

That last point catches retailers out more than any other. Launching the site is the start of the work, not the finish.
