Age check in retail.
Tower Systems serves many specialist retail markets, and our software is built for the detail of each of them. Age checking is one of those features. We developed it years ago and our support and development teams have backed it ever since.
Why age checking matters
Australia has strict rules for selling a range of restricted items, and the legal adult age is eighteen. Tobacco, some adult publications and audio-visual products, certain medications and firearms all carry age restrictions, and regulation keeps adding categories. Our age check tools suit any product with an age check requirement, whatever you sell.
A single breach can seriously hurt a business, and compliance testing is increasing. In one 2013 sweep in the Australian Capital Territory, nine of twenty-four stores tested were penalised for selling cigarettes to a minor working under the supervision of a regulatory officer. This is too important to leave to chance.
How the software protects you
We built several safeguards into the software so that busy or new staff are far less likely to break the law by accident. You decide which products carry an age check, so the safeguard fits whatever your business sells and whatever the law requires where you trade. When a flagged item is sold, staff enter the customer date of birth and the software works out whether the customer is old enough. There is also a field to record identification, such as a driver licence or passport number. Together, the age calculation and the ID record reduce the risk of a restricted product being sold to a minor, and they help you demonstrate compliance for any product with an age check requirement.
Peace of mind at the counter
Age checking belongs in any serious retail software. This is one of many ways Tower Systems software helps your business meet its regulatory obligations.
