What's the best POS system for a retail business in Australia or New Zealand?
No one can honestly tell you which POS system is the best. Anyone who claims otherwise is guessing — or selling something.
Most "best of" lists are marketing, not journalism. Agencies put them together, companies pay to appear, and the links generate revenue. There is no independent testing, no rigorous review. Tower Systems does not pay to be on these lists, which is why you rarely see us there.
Searching for "the best" assumes a single answer exists. It does not. The right POS system depends on what your business actually does.
Start there, with your needs.
Do your customers visit infrequently? A loyalty program built around that changes things. Do you sell by weight or length? You need software that handles it natively, not via workarounds. Serialised products? Recurring billing? These are specific needs, and most generic software ignores them — because generic software is built for average.
If your business is not average, average software will cost you.
A more useful approach: write down what you need, rank the top two or three requirements, and look for software that covers those. It takes more time upfront. The trade-off is worth it.
Tower Systems is vertical market software. We go deep into specific retail types — bookshops, farm supply businesses, Asian supermarkets, bike shops, gift shops, newsagents, gift shops, garden centres. We do not chase the generic market. If we are not the right fit, we say so.
No lock-in contracts. Thirty days notice and you can leave. Pricing is on our website with three clearly defined tiers: towersystems.com.au/pricing.html.

Start with what your business needs. That is the only place this search makes sense to begin.
Don't search for the best because what you’ll likely be given is a list of businesses that pay to be listed and that is probably not right for your business.
Start with you because you matter in this more than any business trying to sell to you.
That’s our advice.
